Injury Prevention | Prevent Injuries

Injury Prevention should be the motto in every home. Protect your family from the hazards of life

The words "Injury Prevention" is a common phrase, but have you really thought about what those words mean and what you can do about them?

We are going to look at specific dangers and find out where they are most likely to occur.

It is very probable that some of the points in these pages will mimic the information in the the Babyproof pages. Please don't just gloss over them. They are important. As your children grow, so many of the dangers will increase. Don't become complacent.

My eldest son has been the victim of a serious burn, actually he has been the victim of a lot of different things - that child was an accident looking for places to happen - and he found plenty.

He also fell off his bicycle while carrying a bottle of coca-cola when the chain slipped. His chest and hands were badly injured. Fortunately a man in a passing vehicle saw him lying on the side of the road bleeding badly and came to his aid.

As young adults, My son and a friend were practicing late one evening for a downhill extreme in-line skating event. The friend took a curve too fast and strayed into the oncoming lane. Obviously he hit an oncoming vehicle.

Once again I received a late night call from one of my children to come and attend an accident victim, because I could get there faster than the ambulance.

As mentioned elsewhere in this site, my daughter lost part of her finger when a stable type door slammed closed.

On yet another occassion, my husband fell off a ladder and was hospitalized for a perforated bowel.

It is not only infants and toddlers who need to be protected from themselves. Adults too need to be educated.
